Since 2017, GSA has advised the SDC funded VSDP in Myanmar. This national Vocational Skills Development Programme is a collaboration between the Swiss government (SDC), international foundation Swisscontact, the Myanmar Ministries of Labour, Education, and Hospitality & Tourism and a broad range of private sector partners and training providers. The programme promotes inclusive socioeconomic development by improving workplace readiness of the labour force and creating employment opportunities for disadvantaged women and men. Central to this is better access to high quality technical and vocational education and training (TVET), linking skills development to labour market demands.

VSDP works across four areas:

  • Short term, market oriented skills training in rural and semi-urban areas

  • Skills for the hospitality sector

  • Dual apprenticeship training

  • Policy and stakeholder engagement

GSA led the internal evaluation of Phase 1 of the project and the design of the 2nd phase, bringing together diverse stakeholders through a participatory process, facilitating collaboration in an intercultural context and combining technical expertise in vocational skills development, tourism and hospitality with geographic experience in South-East Asia and extensive experience working with development partner SDC.

Tim Gamper is a member of the Strategic Review Panel, which steers the direction of the programme and advises the implementing consortium of Swisscontact and INBAS, as well as SDC.
